The Wind Park During 2005 HREA investigated the renewable energy options available and came to the conclusion that a local community owned wind park was by far the most effective way for the community to make a difference on climate change. As Australia's first community owned wind farm it is the first opportunity for people to take a ditrect stake in a wind farm. The Wind Park will be owned by a co-operative - the Hepburn Community Wind Park Co-operative Ltd, known as Hepburn Wind. Do I need to live locally to own part of the wind farm? Investment and ownerhip will be open to everyone however priority will be given to the local community The Project will consist of two modern wind turbines each of 2 Megawatts (MW) capacity situated within 10kms of Daylesford. The energy produced by the turbines will be equivalent to over 2,000 homes - nearly all of Daylesford and Hepburn Springs. This represents a saving in CO2 emissions of approximately 13,000 tonnes per year and is equivalent to planting 19,000 new trees or removing 3,000 cars from the road. HREA has been working with its Project Partner, Future Energy Pty Ltd since January 2005. Future Energy specialises in establishing community owned wind parks. Future Energy's role was to identify and analyse the site, prepare the planning application, establish the co-operative, assist the co-operative to negotiate all necessary contracts and raise the required funds. Future Energy will then project manage the contracted construction of the wind park. On 20th February 2007 the Hepburn Shire Council voted to approve the issue of a Planning Permit for the Wind Park.
